Combermere Abbey is a Grade I listed building and countryside retreat situated on the border of Cheshire and Shropshire. Originally a monastery founded in 1133, later transformed into a country house by Sir George Cotton in 1539, the estate encompasses 1,000 acres of stunning countryside, including Comber Mere, a serene lake designated as a site of Special Scientific Interest.

During your visit, you may overhear the story of the 30-year restoration process and how the Abbey had to embrace the 21st century to secure long-term sustainability. It’s now home to a flourishing and diverse group of businesses and remains privately owned by the family that lives onsite.

The Abbey itself is an architectural marvel, weaving together medieval monastic remains, an elaborate Tudor structure, and 18th and 19th-century embellishments within its Gothic exterior. Visitors can choose from a variety of accommodation, including elegant self-catering cottages within the Victorian Stables, the charming Gothic Stone Lodge, or the grand and luxurious North Wing. Here, history meets modern comfort, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

You can enjoy this luxurious accommodation with up to 53 guests as well as an exquisite in-house chef and bar team who are all highly skilled professionals who thrive on creating bespoke menus. From The Pavilion’s seated dining area to the beautiful Edwardian Glasshouse, the versatile event spaces provide the perfect backdrop for your day.

Combermere Abbey offers guests secure, gated onsite parking and is conveniently located just 25 minutes from the M6. It is also easily accessible from Wrenbury train station and Crewe railway, situated just 20 miles from Chester and Shrewsbury and 50 miles from Manchester. When booked, The North Wing provides an EV charging station, blending historical charm with contemporary convenience.

The team at Combermere Abbey have a comprehensive commitment to sustainability and prioritise environmental responsibility through a variety of initiatives including the use of local suppliers and organic products, waste reduction, low-energy lighting, extensive recycling programs, and other eco-friendly practices.

“We brought three businesses together for a team building day at Rowton Hall. Ben and his team were fantastic, extremely friendly and professional throughout. The activities were lots of fun! We all had a great day and the desired outcome was achieved in building a better team across the three businesses. I would not hesitate to recommend Events Made Simple and will certainly use them again.”
