Step back in time with this hands-on medieval-themed challenge. Teams must work together to assemble, load, and fire a flat-packed Trebuchet, aiming for a wooden castle at the centre of the playing zone. Every shot counts, with maximum points for hitting the castle itself. Construct a Catapult blends problem-solving, teamwork, and time pressure, giving corporate groups a dynamic, engaging experience that’s as fun as it is strategic.
Teams start with a flat-packed Trebuchet kit and a set build window to assemble it. Every member has a role, from following instructions and assembling components to testing the load and fine-tuning the firing mechanism. Coordination and problem-solving are key, as mistakes or delays can cost valuable points.
Once assembled, teams take turns launching projectiles at the wooden castle in the centre of the playing zone. Fielders can be deployed to retrieve shots quickly or to intercept opponents, adding another layer of strategy. Teams must decide whether to push for extra points with additional shots or begin packing down in time to stay in the game.
The challenge ends when the time limit is reached. Teams dismantle their catapult and tally their points to see who outscored the competition. Construct a Catapult works equally well as a standalone activity or combined with Archery for a full medieval-themed day.
This challenge puts teamwork into practice from the outset. Building the Trebuchet requires clear communication, shared responsibility, and the ability to follow instructions under pressure. As issues arise during the build or testing phase, teams must quickly problem-solve and adapt to keep moving, making collaboration essential rather than optional.
Time pressure drives decision-making throughout. Teams must balance build time with scoring opportunities, deciding how long to keep firing and when to start dismantling to avoid losing everything. The need to weigh risk against reward keeps everyone engaged and mirrors real-world situations where timing and judgement are critical.

Outdoor Activity
Construct a Catapult is an outdoor activity which requires a suitable lawned area at your chosen venue so is a great addition to a country retreat or away day. The setup time is 1 hour and this activity typically runs for around 1 hour, 20 mins.
As a standalone activity this can accommodate groups of 15 - 40. For greater numbers this can be combined with Archery to create a medieval themed day or included as part of a larger activity package.

“Our event was hosted by Ben and Simon, who where great!! Both were very professional and enthusiastic during the challenges and organised everything from the teams to who went head to head, scorecards and prizes for the winning team and runner up. The event was flawless and we would 100% recommended this company to anyone looking for something different to engage staff and have fun.”
