Middlethorpe Hall & Spa is one of the three Historic House Hotels owned by the National Trust. Located just two miles from York’s city centre, this beautiful historic venue is set in 20 acres of gardens and parkland offering the space and tranquillity of a country retreat whilst remaining close to the city itself.  Built in 1699, the hotel retains a period feel with traditionally decorated rooms furnished with antiques and fine paintings, giving it the look and ambiance of a well-kept private manor house rather than a 29-bedroom hotel. It also has three boardrooms and self-contained meeting rooms perfect for corporate clients planning a get together. However, where it really excels as a venue is the space it offers for team building activities and country sports.

The gardens have been extensively restored and replanted. The enchanting walled kitchen garden produces not only a beautiful display of flowering shrubs and herbaceous borders, it also benefits from a selection of fruit trees that produce apples, pears, plums, peaches and greengages, all of which are used by the hotel’s chefs to create wonderful puddings.  Middlethorpe’s 2 AA Rosette Restaurant provides imaginative menus that follow the hotel’s theme of traditional excellence. With a tranquil vista over neatly mown lawns the hotel’s two dining rooms, The Oak and The Pineapple, provide the perfect, elegant setting for a meal with your team.

In addition to the historic buildings and gorgeous grounds, Middlethorpe Hall & Spa also boasts a health and fitness spa built behind the handsome facade of two listed Edwardian cottages. Perfect for delegates hoping to relax after a busy day. The spa has a large indoor swimming pool with views onto the enclosed garden plus a steam room and sauna. There is a private sunny garden with loungers in the summer, and in a restored Victorian summer-house you’ll find the gymnasium. The restoration, conservation and conversion of this historic landmark into a country house hotel has been carried out to exacting and historically accurate standards, making Middlethorpe a classic location for your next event.
